Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni has called upon the teachers to refrain from reprehensible and unethical acts such as leaking question papers during public examinations.
The minister made the call while speaking at an event on the occasion of World Teachers' Day on Thursday.
She said that if a teacher leaks questions, the responsibility of the entire teaching community falls on them. Even though the leaking of questions in public examinations has stopped, one or two teachers are still involved in it.
Referring to the implementation of various logical demands of the teachers, the education minister said if teachers do not have financial and social security, they would not focus on teaching in the classroom.
“Although the government also has various obstacles, we are still trying to ensure the social and financial security of teachers,” she said.
The minister further said that a good student does not mean getting high marks in public examinations, rather focus should be on developing that student into a good person.
She urged all teachers not to provide any immoral support to the students. “Our new curriculum has designed integrity, ideals, philosophy, and compassion.”
Referring the student suicide situations, the education minister said that some of the students are choosing to commit suicide suffering from depression. “Teachers and parents of educational institutions should be aware of this.”
If a child in the family is depressed, they should be brought back to normal life, the minister said.
Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Education Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury mentioned that Bangladeshi students are ahead of many countries in Asia in terms of skill, writing, speaking and reading, even though the universities are lagging behind in the world ranking.
