Unidentified man stabbed to death during Tazia procession in Old Dhaka

An unidentified man, aged around 30, was allegedly stabbed to death during a Tazia procession in the Banglabazar area of Old Dhaka on Friday afternoon.

The incident occurred at approximately 5:30pm while the procession was passing through the area.

The critically injured man was taken to Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital (Mitford Hospital), where doctors declared him dead after examination.

Confirming the incident, Sutrapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Matiur Rahman said the man was fatally injured after being struck with a sharp, knife-like object during the procession in Banglabazar.

Passers-by later rushed him to Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital, where the emergency department physician declared him dead, the OC said.

'The identity of the deceased has yet to be confirmed. The victim was estimated to be around 30 years old. We are working to ascertain his identity, while legal proceedings are underway,' he added.
