The autopsy of Inqilab Manch convener Sharif Osman Hadi was completed at the Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital morgue on Saturday.
Earlier in the morning, Hadi’s body was taken from the National Heart Foundation Hospital and Research Institute morgue to Suhrawardy Hospital by ambulance under tight security. Members of the police, Ansar, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), and the army were deployed to ensure security.
Hospital sources said the autopsy was completed at around 11:40am. Preparations were then made to transport the body back to the National Heart Institute morgue.
The body will later be bathed there before being taken to the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, where Hadi’s funeral is scheduled to be held at 2pm.
A large number of people gathered outside Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital and the National Heart Institute on Saturday to pay their last respects and to attend the funeral.
Sharif Osman Hadi’s body was brought back to Bangladesh from Singapore on Friday. Following the funeral, he will be buried beside the grave of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam at Dhaka University.
Osman Hadi died at around 9:45pm on Thursday while undergoing treatment in Singapore. A day of state mourning is being observed on Saturday over his death.
He was shot in the head by unidentified assailants on December 12 on Box Culvert Road in Purana Paltan, a day after the announcement of the schedule for the 13th national parliamentary election and referendum. He was initially taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, later shifted to Evercare Hospital, and eventually flown to Singapore by air ambulance on December 15 for advanced treatment, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
