Chitttagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Affairs Adviser Supradip Chakma has said the July Uprising was a milestone in the struggle of the people of Bangladesh for self-identity, justice, and the establishment of democracy.
Supradip made the remarks at a special religious merit ceremony and discussion meeting held in the courtyard of the Dharmarajik Buddhist Monastery in Dhaka on Tuesday, in memory of the martyrs of the July uprising.
He stated that the sacrifice of these martyrs will forever inspire the nation, according to a press release from the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs.
The adviser said it was a kind of attempt to weave the dream of a new Bangladesh, where people’s deep aspirations for justice, democracy, social equality, and cultural triumph are expressed.
He added that the uprising was not merely a political movement but should also be regarded as a cultural endeavor to reconstruct the people’s self-identity.
Supradip expressed his opinion that the uprising brought new momentum to the movement to build a secular and pluralistic society, especially by bringing to the forefront the participation of the country’s marginalized communities, including those in the Chittagong Hill Tracts.
Speakers in their addresses expressed a firm commitment to building a just, united, and humane Bangladesh, embracing the spirit of the martyrs.
The organizing body stated that such events are not merely acts of remembrance but also a continuous effort to build a value-based society.
