BGB deployed in Mohakhali as Titumir students block railway tracks

Four platoons of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed in Mohakhali, Dhaka, to maintain order amid a blockade of railway tracks by students of Titumir College, who are demanding their institution be made a university.

The students began their protest around 4:15 pm on Monday. As a result of the blockade, train services on the Dhaka-Tongi-Dhaka section were suspended.

No trains are currently running on this route.

Md Anwar Hossain, the station master of Kamalapur Railway Station, confirmed this in the afternoon, saying that around 3:30pm, they received information that students had stopped the Noakhali-bound Upakul Express.

The officer-in-charge of the Railway police station said the situation was not favourable, and as per his instructions, all trains were halted.

Earlier, at 3:30pm, the protesting students started their demonstration by blocking the railway tracks in Mohakhali.

The students announced that the protest will continue until their demands are met, and they warned that the protest may intensify if their demands are not addressed.

At around 12:30pm, the students blocked the Mahakhali-Gulshan road, halting traffic.

Later, a group of students marched from the college towards the railway crossing, where they blocked the rail line.
