Police conduct raid in Jurain following autorickshaw drivers’ protest

Following a protest by battery-powered rickshaw drivers, the police launched an anti-narcotics operation in the Jurain Railgate area of the capital.

The operation was conducted near the railway lines in the Alambagh area of Jurain on Friday at around 3:45pm.

Several individuals were detained for questioning during the operation, but they were released after no evidence of involvement with narcotics was found, according to Kadamtali police station's Investigation Officer Md Safayet Hossain.

He said: "On Friday morning, battery-powered rickshaw drivers staged a protest, blocking the Jurain Railgate area. After the Friday prayers, we conducted an operation to disperse the protesters and restore normal train movement by clearing the railway tracks."

Md Safayet Hossain added: "There were complaints about drug use and sales in the Jurain Railgate area. Acting on these complaints, we carried out the operation. However, no drug dealers were found. While some individuals were detained for questioning, they were later released as no evidence of drug-related activity was found."

Reportedly, the operation, lasting about an hour, was conducted on Friday afternoon between Jurain Railgate and Alambagh.

Several police stations under the Wari Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), including Shyampur and Kadamtali, participated in the operation.

Afterward, DMP Wari Division Deputy Police Commissioner (DC) Md Saleh Uddin said: "The police’s anti-narcotics operations are ongoing. Previous operations have also been conducted in Jurain, and this effort will continue as part of an ongoing process."
