NSU, Swedish universities explore collaborative PhD program for midwifery education

North South University (NSU) and two Swedish institutions, the University of Gothenburg and Dalarna University held a round-table discussion on Tuesday regarding the feasibility of introducing a joint PhD program for midwifery education.

Hosted at the conference room of NSU's School of Health and Life Sciences, the discussion was steered by Professor Kerstin Enderson of Dalarna University and Professor Malin Bogren of Gothenburg University, says a press release issued on Thursday.

The meeting was chaired by Professor Hasan Mahmud Reza, dean of the School of Health and Life Sciences at North South University.

The event saw the participation of key figures, including Delower Hossain Hawlader, chair of the Department of Public Health, Dr Azaz Sharif, acting director of NSU Global Health, and several other esteemed members of the public health faculty.

Representatives from the Swedish institutions joined the discussion, with a particular focus on fostering a PhD program within NSU.

The collaborative endeavour aims to advance midwifery education at the tertiary level, a crucial area of interest for Bangladesh and a priority for its development.

The consensus reached during the meeting was clear: Dalarna University and Gothenburg University will collaborate closely to formulate a comprehensive concept note.

Furthermore, the participants recognized the importance of solidifying this partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) involving all three universities.

The envisioned collaboration holds the potential to provide valuable education in the field of midwifery, equipping Bangladeshi students to effectively serve their communities.
