Health minister: Most deaths in Gulistan blast caused by excessive bleeding

At least 16 people were killed in an explosion in the Siddikbazar area of Gulistan in Dhaka on Tuesday afternoon, and the majority of the deaths were caused by excessive bleeding, Health Minister Zahid Maleque said while visiting those injured in the incident at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Twelve dead bodies were brought to DMCH from the building, while 112 injured people were rushed there for treatment. Currently, a total of 67 people are undergoing treatment at DMCH.

“We have made full preparations at the hospital. We have brought all our doctors and nurses to DMCH,” the minister added.

He also said first aid is being given at DMCH's emergency unit. Later, the injured are being transferred to the ICU if needed.

“We have also made arrangements in nearby hospitals. We will transfer patients to the burn unit of Salimullah Medical College Hospital if required. We already know that many people have more head injuries. Most of the deaths were due to haemorrhage,” the minister added.

Seven people were admitted to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic, Maleque said. “Around 80% of the surface of their bodies are burnt. Many people are coming here again after receiving first aid at various clinics. Comprehensive treatment measures have been taken here.”
