Workers of Apparel Industries Limited blocked the Kakoli-Banani road of the capital, causing a long tailback on Saturday morning after one of their colleagues was injured after being hit by a bus.
The injured was identified as Nurun Nahar Begum. She is currently undergoing treatment at Kurmitola General Hospital, according to the workers.
The RMG workers started the blockade around 8:30am, due to which both lanes of the road were closed.
Gulshan Traffic Division Deputy Commissioner (DC) Abdul Momen told the media that workers blocked the road in the morning after a garment worker was hit by a bus, as a result, both lanes were closed.
In a Facebook post at 9:30am, Traffic Gulshan Division said both outgoing and incoming from Chairman Bari towards Uttara were closed due to the road blockade by garment workers in the Banani-Chairman Bari area.
It advised commuters to use the Badda-Pragati Sarani road instead.
After the blockade, thousands of vehicles were stuck on either side of the road, with officegoers being the worst sufferers.
Traffic Gulshan Division later posted that the protesters had cleared the area and vehicle movement on the road was now normal.
