Movement at Naya Paltan and its surrounding areas is slowly returning back to normal with police presence decreasing, after Wednesday's clash between the police and BNP activists which left one dead and many others injured.
Offices, and shops started opening on Sunday morning, reports Bangla Tribune.
Police barricades were removed from all roads and lanes, and additional forces deployed in the area were also being called back.
However, some policemen were seen on duty at the intersections and in alleys.
No leaders or activists of the BNP had arrived at the party office as of 11:30am, but were expected to go there after noon.
Bangla TribuneMohammad Salauddin Khan, a Krishak Dal member, said: “I came here at 10:30am in the morning. All the office staff are coming as well. We are now waiting for our leaders to arrive. Once they come we will enter the office with journalists.”
“After the clash on December 7, the police locked the office and took the keys with them. They have not given us the keys to the office yet,” he added.
There is no obstacle from the administration, so BNP leaders can come to the central office and carry out their activities, said Hayatul Islam Khan, deputy commissioner (DC) of Motijheel Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
“Some check posts were set up in the interest of public security and maintaining law and order in Dhaka city, especially in the Motijheel area. They have already been removed,” he said.
“As many as 460 members of the police force were deployed on Saturday. Among them, 210 members are on duty today. They will be called back in phases,” he added.
