The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Sunday sealed off Alam Memorial Hospital in Dhaka's Mirpur.
The decision was taken after authorities found out that the hospital was unregistered while investigating a death of a five-year-old girl's death.
Recently, the five-year-old girl named Maisha from Kurigram, died while undergoing hand surgery at the Mirpur-based hospital.
A circular signed by Sheikh Daud Adnan, acting director (hospitals and clinics) at the DGHS, confirmed the development.
The notification said that as part of the ongoing probe, it was found that the institution was not registered as per the rules, which is completely illegal.
Therefore, a written order was given to the hospital authority to refrain from providing health care.
However, when asked about this, Jikrullah Swapan, the new managing director (MD) of Alam Memorial Hospital, denied the issue.
He said: “The DGHS issued a notice to the previous administration for failing to comply with all rules and legislation. On Monday, I will deposit the registration fee. In addition, since the accident was on December 1, we have stopped providing service.”
Dr Ahsan Habib and Dr Shariful Islam associated with the operation were summoned by the DGHS on Monday.
In this regard, MD Jikrullah Swapan said that they will present their views in the department on Monday.
Earlier, the relatives of Maisha brought her to Dhaka for a hand operation.
Family members said that Mojaffar, Maisha's father, took Maisha to the Mirpur Islami Bank Hospital to see Dr Ahsan Habib, an assistant professor of surgery at the National Cancer Research Institute and Hospital.
Dr Ahsan Habib observed Maisha's hand and consulted that following a surgery, it will return to normal.
Dr Ahsan Habib conducted Maisha's surgery after she was brought to the Alam Memorial Hospital in Rupnagar.
However, Maisha's lifeless body came out of the operation theatre three hours later.
