Petrol pump in Dhaka fined 2.5L for short-selling customers

The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) on Saturday fined a petrol pump in the capital’s Motijheel area Tk2.5 lakh for selling customers short.

Abdul Jabbar Mondal, assistant director of Dhaka DNCRP conducted a drive on Saturday morning and fined Karim and Sons petrol pump for the fraud.

He said: “Karim and Sons petrol pump was providing 490ml and 500ml less octane through two machines.”

Besides, the sale of octane through those two machines was suspended, he added.

The government on Friday announced that it had raised all fuel oil prices, which came into effect on Saturday.

The sharp rise, around 50%, came as a surprise since the authorities recently rumors of a possible crisis over fuel stock.

Now the price of diesel and kerosene per litre at the consumer level is Tk114, octane Tk135, and petrol Tk130.
