Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust (Blast) has demanded swift disposal of the case filed over the 2013 Rana Plaza collapse, which claimed the lives of at least 1,136 people and left scores of others injured.
It also demanded proper compensation for the Rana Plaza victims and their families, urging the authorities concerned to set a minimum criterion for the provision of remuneration.
A press release was issued by the legal services organization in this regard in observance of the seventh anniversary of the Rana Plaza tragedy on Thursday.
“On April 24, 2020, marking the seventh anniversary of the Rana Plaza collapse, Blast demands a speedy trial of those responsible for this tragedy.
“It also demands amendment of the existing labour law of the country in compliance with the court’s observation and international standards so that the Rana Plaza victims and their families get proper and timely compensation and rehabilitation,” said the release.
At least 1,136 people, mostly garment workers, were killed and over 2,500 were injured in the building collapse on April 24, 2013.
