RAB raids Daraz office, warehouse for overcharging for masks

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Sunday raided the Banani office and Tejgaon warehouse of Daraz.com.bd, Bangladesh’s top online market place, for overcharging for surgical and anti-pollution safety masks.

The drive was led by RAB Executive Magistrate Sarwar Alam.

Surgical masks and hand sanitizer have been in high demand in Bangladesh following the global outbreak of Covid-19 (coronavirus). The products are mostly supplied from China.

Amidst the increasing demand, the Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA)  took the decision to fix prices of hand sanitizer and surgical masks.

“The DGDA fixed the price of one surgical mask at Tk30, but Daraz has been advertising their sale for Tk2,255. They have similarly hiked prices of anti-pollution safety masks. We have the proper documents,” RAB Executive Magistrate Sarwar Alam said.
