Customs, VAT officials start wearing uniforms

Customs and VAT officials of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) have started wearing olive-coloured service uniforms.

NBR Chairman Md Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan unveiled the uniform formally at a ceremony, at Institution of Diploma Engineers (IDEB), Bangladesh, Dhaka on Tuesday, reports BSS.

A total of 113 officials of Customs and VAT led by Director General of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate Dr Md Shahidul Islam participated in a parade wearing the new uniform.

NBR introduced the uniforms for the Customs and VAT officials as they come under attacks and face harassment at various times in the confusion of identities.

NBR Chairman said wearing uniforms has been made compulsory for Customs and VAT Departments staff.

All of the staff must wear the uniform from March 1.

On September 3, NBR issued a gazette notification to this end.

Bangladesh Customs and VAT Clothing Rules-2019 states that the soldier, sub-inspectors, assistant revenue officers, revenue officers, assistant commissioners, deputy commissioners, joint commissioners, additional commissioners, commissioners and other officials have to wear uniform.
