Atiqul warns of demolition drives against canal grabbers

The newly elected Mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Atiqul Islam has directed the illegal canal grabbers to remove illegal structures and warned of launching demolition drives to free the water bodies from water logging. 

He issued the warning while visiting various canals under DNCC on Tuesday.

The mayor visited Shayesta Kha Avenue in Uttara, various canals in Ashkona, Banani and Uttar Badda areas in the city.

“We all love our city, we all should come forward to ease the sufferings of city dwellers,” Atiqul said.

During his visit to Shayesta Kha Avenue in Uttara, he found many illegal structures built on drains which may obstruct smooth flow of water in the upcoming monsoon.

He directed the authorities concerned to remove the illegal structures from the drains. He warned of stern action and launching of drives to demolish the illegal structures.

While visiting Ashkona area, Atiqul directed the authorities of Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (WASA) for cleaning all drains. 

He also instructed the Civil Aviation Authority, Dhaka WASA and DNCC to take necessary steps to remove water logging permanently from the area.
