Salman F Rahman, 2 others arrested in new case

All three had previously been arrested in different murder and attempted murder cases

Salman F Rahman, former private industry affairs adviser to ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, along with two others, has been shown arrested in a case filed over murder and attempted murder in connection with the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

The other two individuals are former mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation Atiqul Islam and former senior secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism Md Mohibul Haque.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Awlad Hossain Muhammad Junaid granted the arrest petition after a hearing on Wednesday.

According to court sources, the investigating officers of the relevant cases presented the accused before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka and sought approval to show them as arrested.

Following the hearing, the court granted the petition.

Among them, Salman F Rahman and Atiqul Islam have been shown arrested in the same murder case filed with Vatara police station, while Mohibul Haque has been shown arrested in an attempted murder case under Tejgaon police station.

Earlier, on August 13 last year, based on confidential information, police arrested Salman F Rahman from the capital’s Sadarghat area while he was attempting to flee via waterways.

Meanwhile, on October 16, Atiqul Islam was arrested from the DOHS area in Mohakhali.

Mohibul Haque was arrested on the night of November 20 from Mohakhali DOHS.

All three had previously been arrested in different murder and attempted murder cases and remained in custody after serving various periods of remand.
