AL associate bodies blame BNP-Jamaat for spreading propaganda

Associate organizations of ruling party Bangladesh Awami League have blamed the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami for spreading propaganda using the ongoing students’ movement.

The allegations came on Sunday at a rally held in Mirpur 1 area of Dhaka.

Speakers at the rally blamed the BNP and Jamaat for creating the current instability in the country and alleged that those with anti-liberation sentiments are spreading false rumours online to incite students who are holding demonstrations for safe roads.

Leaders and activists attending the rally chanted slogans: “Do not fear Sheikh Hasina, we did not leave the highway.”

They also added that a conspiracy is afoot against the government and the country, perpetrated by national and international forces with ill intentions.

The rally led to a huge traffic jam in the Mirpur area. Additional policemen have been deployed there to avert any untoward incident.

The rally was led by Mirpur Bangla College unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League while Sweccha Shebok League, Awami Mahila League, and Sramik League also took part in the rally.

Students have been out on the streets since July 29, demanding safe roads and justice for the two students who were killed in a road accident on Dhaka Airport Road.

Shaheed Ramiz Uddin School and College students Diya Khanam Mim and Abdul Karim Rajib were killed, and several others were injured when a bus of “Jabal-e-Noor Paribahan” ploughed into a group of students on July 29.

For the last six days, the ongoing street movement of students demonstrating for road safety remained largely peaceful, except for some incidents.

The situation worsened yesterday afternoon, with violence fueled by rumour-mongering, claims, and counter-claims on social media.
