Now girl loses leg, run over by BRTC bus

A teenage girl lost one of her legs as a BRTC bus ran over her on Airport Road in Banani of Dhaka on Friday night.
An Uttara-bound bus of the state-owned Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) from Mohakhali, hit Rozina Akhter, 16, while she was crossing the road in the Chairmanbari area around 8:30pm, according to sources at the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedic Rehabilitation (Nitor), better known as Pangu Hospital.
The right leg of the victim got severed from the thigh down in the accident, doctors at Nitor said.
“We have seized the bus and detained its driver from the incident. We will take action against him in accordance with the law,” Shamsul Haque, sub-inspector of Banani police station, said.
Rozina, who works as domestic help at the house of a journalist in the Niketon area, told reporters that she had gone to the Amtola area near Chairmanbari to visit one of her friends.
The BRTC bus ran over her when she tried to cross the road, said Rozina, daughter of Rasul Mia of Dhobaura upazila of Mymensingh.
Earlier on April 4, Rajib Hossain, a student of Government Titumir College, lost his right hand after it got stuck between two buses in the Bangla Motor area.
He succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on April 17.
