Doctors: No torture marks on Afsana's body

They say initial findings indicate that Afsana may have committed suicide. Dhaka Medical College Forensic Department's Assistant Professor Dr Abul Khair Md Safiuzzaman told reporters on Sunday that doctors could not determine the time of her death. Afsana, a final-year student at Mirpur’s SAIC Institute of Management and Technology, was dropped off at a hospital in the city on August 13 by two unidentified men who had fled soon after. Her family had claimed that she was raped and murdered. Asked if the body had signs of torture, Abul said: “We did not find any such thing. The only mark on her body was from the noose around the neck.” He also added that they were running several other tests and would divulge details when they get the results. The doctors are scheduled to hand over the primary post-mortem examination report to police on Sunday.
