A youth posing as a customer disappeared with a CBR motorcycle during a test ride from a showroom in Ashulia.
The incident occurred Friday afternoon at the "Bhai Bhai Motors" showroom in the Yearpur area of Ashulia’s Yearpur union.
Showroom owner Md Helal stated that around 4:30pm, three individuals arrived in a private car, posing as customers interested in purchasing a motorcycle.
Among them was the thief, who inspected several motorcycles and eventually showed interest in the CBR Thai motorcycle. He took it for a test ride but caused minor damage by dropping it.
Later, he called another person to the showroom.
They negotiated the price at TK6,50,000, and the thief requested another test ride, during which he fled with the motorcycle.
When he did not return after a considerable time, the showroom owner detained the private car driver, Lebu Mia, and his companion, Dulal.
The private car driver, Lebu Mia, said: "I drive for a rental car service at Zirabo Bus Stand. The thief hired me for Tk2,000 to drive to Baipayl. During the journey, he introduced himself as someone from the nearby Durgapur area, saying his father was a businessman and he intended to buy a motorcycle. He had a bag, claiming it contained the money for the purchase."
He added: "When we reached the showroom, he left the bag in the car, saying it contained the cash. After he fled, we checked the bag and found only papers, no money. He tricked me and left us behind while escaping with the motorcycle."
Showroom owner Helal Mia said: "The three came together, negotiated the motorcycle price, and one fled with it during the test ride. We detained the other two who accompanied him."
"If they pay for the motorcycle, we will release them," he said.
Ashulia Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Abu Bakar Siddique said: "I am not aware of this motorcycle theft yet. If a formal complaint is filed, necessary legal action will be taken to recover the motorcycle."
