Sabujbagh police on Friday night recovered the bodies of two children from a house in north Basabo area of Dhaka.
The deceased are nine-year-old madrasa student Mashrafi Ibne Mahbub and his six-year-old sister Humayra Binte Mahbub.
Their throat-slit bodies were recovered from the rooftop flat of a six-storey house around 10pm. A machete was also found in the house which, the police say, might have been used in committing the murders.
DMP Additional Commissioner Sheikh Maruf Hassan visited the spot.
Father of the victims Mahbub, a computer operator at Dhaka Wasa, discovered the bodies when he returned home in the evening. He then informed his relatives and the police about the matter.
The mother has remained missing since the incident. Mahbub claimed that his wife was mentally unstable.
But Maruf said that it was too early to suspect the mother for the double-murder. “Several persons could be behind the murders,” he told reporters.
