Ex-NBR chairman Nojibur Rahman sent to prison

Former chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR), Nojibur Rahman, has been sent to jail by a court following a remand in a case filed by Paltan Model Police Station over the murder of BNP activist Mokbul.

On Wednesday, after the completion of a three-day remand, the investigation officer of the case presented Nojibur Rahman in court and requested that he be kept in custody.

Upon reviewing the request, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Saifuzzaman ordered that he be sent to jail.

Sub-Inspector Rokonuzzaman Rakib of the General Registration Branch of Paltan Model Police Station confirmed the information.

On the night of October 6, Nojibur Rahman was arrested by a team of the Detective Branch (DB) of the police from Gulshan.

The following day, the court granted a three-day remand in connection with the murder case of Jubo Dal leader Shamim.

After the remand ended on October 10, he was sent to jail, where he has remained since.

On December 18, the court again granted a three-day remand in this case.

According to allegations in the Mokbul murder case, on December 10, 2022, the BNP announced a one-point demand movement program.

Prior to this, on December 7, DB officers Harun-or-Rashid, Mehedi Hasan, and Biplob Kumar conducted a raid at the BNP's Naya Paltan office, vandalized the office, and attacked thousands of leaders and activists gathered nearby.

During the attack, an activist named Mokbul Hossain was shot and killed.

In this incident, a case was filed on September 30 by Mahfuzur Rahman against 256 individuals, including Sheikh Hasina.
