PBI SP gets bail in case over colleague’s rape

A Dhaka court on Monday granted bail to Moktar Hossain, a superintendent of police (SP) of the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), in a case filed over the rape of a female police inspector.

Habibur Rahman Siddiquee, acting judge of Dhaka's Seventh Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal, gave the order after the police official surrendered before the court and sought bail.

On August 12 last year, the woman filed the case against Moktar Hossain on charges of raping her.

After recording the statement of the plaintiff, another judge of the tribunal asked Uttara East police station to accept the allegations as an FIR.

Jasim Uddin, an inspector at the Serious Crime Squad of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), also the investigation officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet against Moktar Hossain in the case on January 30.

According to the case statement, the woman was serving in the UN peacekeeping force in Sudan at a time when SP Moktar was also working in Sudan.

On December 20 of 2019, SP Moktar went to the victim’s home looking for the key to her car, and at one stage, he raped the woman.

On December 22, the accused went to the victim to seek an apology and again raped her.

The plaintiff alleged that SP Moktar had raped her again on January 3 of 2020 on the promise of marrying her.
