A teenager has been arrested over the rape of a 10-year-old street girl, who sells flowers for a living, under the Dhaka metro rail station at Shahbagh under Ramna police station.
The arrest of Raihan, 19, came following the rape on Wednesday night.
Meanwhile, the survivor was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Md Tarekul Islam, inspector (investigation) of Ramna police station, said the girl was raped in a hut under the Shahbagh metro rail station. "Hearing her screams, passers-by came forward and detained the boy.”
He added: “On information, police rescued the child and admitted her to DMCH. Later, the accused Raihan was arrested.”
The inspector continued: "The child lives with her grandmother in the Shahbagh area. She sells flower garlands on the streets. Arrested Raihan is also a street youth. A case is underway in this regard."
