Charges framed against Islamist orator Rafiqul Islam Madani in DSA case

A Dhaka court on Wednesday framed charges against the much-talked about Islamist orator Rafiqul Islam Madani in a Digital Security Case. 

Dhaka Cyber Tribunal Judge Mohammad Ash-Shams Joglul Hossain framed the charges after rejecting the discharge petition filed by the accused.

Rafiqul Islam Madani pleaded not guilty and demanded justice after the charges against him were read out in the court.

The court later fixed February 22 for recording witnesses' depositions in the case filed with Gaccha police station in Gazipur.

On April 8, 2021, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) filed the case against the 27-year-old preacher with the Gaccha police station on the charges of making anti-state statements and for instigating unrest ahead of the visit of the Indian prime minister. 

He was arrested the previous day from his home in Netrakona.

On March 26, Madani and 30 others were detained by the police for clashes during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Bangladesh. 

He is accused of spreading negative and provocative remarks about the administration through YouTube. Several destructive activities were carried out in various places, including Brahmanbaria and Chittagong, following Madani’s provocative statements.
