The High Court has ordered the government to ensure protection for the murals and sculptures of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman across Bangladesh.
The bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice Shahed Nuruddin passed the order on Monday, confirmed Deputy Attorney General ABM Abdullah Al Mahmud Basar.
On Sunday, a writ petition was filed with the High Court, seeking security of all the sculptures, including those of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, across the country.
The writ filed by Supreme Court Lawyer Uttam Lahiri sought a rule seeking necessary directive to the respondents to prevent disorder centring the installation of Bangabandhu's sculpture.

It also sought directives over proper steps by the director general of Islamic Foundation and the khatib of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque to resist confusion among people over the issue.
Secretaries to Home Ministry, Religious Affair Ministry, Liberation War Affairs Ministry, inspector general of police, director general of Islamic Foundation, and khatib of Baitul Mukarram Mosque were made respondents to the writ.
In the early hours of Saturday, miscreants smashed an under construction sculpture of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at a key intersection in Kushtia town. The face and hands of the sculpture were vandalized.
The incident took place amid protests by various Islamist organizations across the country opposing the installation of Bangabandhu's sculpture.
The ruling Awami League and other political parties along with socio-cultural organizations continued to stage demonstrations against the anti-sculpture groups.
