The High Court has directed to form an independent investigation committee in connection with the reported corruption in purchasing books for setting up Bangabandhu Corner at all government primary schools.
The bench of Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice KM Zahirul Hoque passed the order on Wednesday after holding a hearing.
According to the court's order, the three-member independent committee will be led by the Secretary of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education. Two other members will be the Director General of the Bangla Academy and Liberation War Museum's Trustee Mofidul Hoque.
“The bench also directed the committee to submit the probe report before the court within one month,” said Barrister Syed Sayedul Haque Sumon.
Earlier on August 31, a writ was filed with the High Court seeking its order upon concerned government offices to conduct judicial investigations against a journalist for his alleged involvement in corruption.
The unnamed journalist, a senior reporter at Jamuna Television, was accused of corruption in purchasing books to establish Bangabandhu Corner at all government primary schools.
The petitioner, Barrister Syed Sayedul Haque Sumon also asked to issue a rule why the government's inaction against those who are involved with corruption in purchasing books for setting up Bangabandhu Corner at all government primary schools should not be declared illegal.
The secretary of the ministry of Liberation War, the secretary of the ministry of primary and mass education, the director general of the department of primary and mass education, Journey Multimedia Limited, Swadhika Publishers, the alleged Journalist, and his wife were made respondents to the writ petition.
