Justice Bhabani Prasad Singha, a High Court judge, is set to go into retirement on Friday after completing a long judicial career.
The judge handled a good number of written judgments over the course of his career including the Narayanganj seven murder case, the Jahangirnagar University student Zubaer murder case, the Laxmipur school student Seema rape and murder case, and the Narshingdhi six murder case.
After completing his Master of Arts (MA) in English and Bachelor of Laws, Bhabani Prasad enrolled as a district court advocate on March 3, 1979. He Joined the Judicial Service as a district munsif on April 4, 1983, and was promoted to district and sessions judge on February 24, 2000.
Bhabani Prasad Singha got appointment as an additional judge to the High Court Division of the Supreme Court on December 12, 2010. Later, on December 12, 2012, he was elevated to permanent judge.
Before getting appointment as additional judge, Bhabani Prasad also was serving as dean to the Faculty of law for the Premier University in Chittagong.
On his last working day in the High Court on Thursday, the Supreme Court Bar Association and the attorney general’s office arranged a virtual farewell for him. Among others, Supreme Court Bar Association President Advocate AM Aminuddin, Secretary Barrister Ruhul Kuddus Kajal, Attorney General Mahbubey Alam joined in to celebrate the glorious life of the retired justice.
According to the Supreme Court (SC) website, a total of 102 justice are working with the SC, 96 of whom are at the High Court Division and six, including Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, are working at the Appellate Division.
