The High Court has issued a rule asking authorities concerned to explain as to why it shall not pass order to install air conditioners (AC) in courtrooms across Bangladesh.
The bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader on Sunday also asked the secretaries to the ministries of law, power, finance, and housing and public works to respond to the rule within four weeks, reports BSS.
The court passed the order after hearing a petition filed on April 11 as public interest litigation (PIL).
Senior jurist ZI Khan Panna and petitioner Advocate Moksed Ali represented the petitioner during Sunday’s hearing.
The petition said lawyers and justice seekers suffer in intense heat during summer and trial proceedings get hampered too.
“If ACs can be installed in all the courtrooms, all people concerned can work undisturbed and it is a part of modernization of judiciary too,” it added.
