3 remanded over gang rape in Noakhali

A Noakhali court granted a four-day remand prayer for three suspects arrested over the incident of gang raping a 29-year-old mother of three. 

Senior Judicial Magistrate Nabanita Guha granted the remand of Abdur Rab Manna, Harun Ur Rashid and Md Selim on Tuesday after the hearing.

The suspects however, citing innocence has asked to be relieved from the case, as they deny their involvement.

Noakhali Detective Branch of Police Officer-in-Charge Abul Khair said: “The court granted a four-day remand after the suspects were produced before the court seeking remand for seven days.”

Meanwhile, the plaintiff’s lawyer filed a writ to the court, saying the primary suspect Zakir Hossain Zahir, intentionally misled the police with his confession, where he claimed the relative of the victim as suspects involved in the incident.

The victim had confirmed the matter and denied their involvement with the incident.

On Saturday, according to Zahir's primary confession, police conducted raids and arrested three of the victim’s relatives.

Later on Sunday, Zahir gave his official confessional statement to the court under section 164.

The 29-year-old mother of three was allegedly raped on Friday night by four men after they forcefully entered her house, and tied her and her children up, in Noakhali Dhanshiri union’s Nabagram village.
