Four men allegedly raped the mother of three on Friday night
Another woman has been gang-raped in Noakhali Dhanshiri union’s Nabagram village.
Police have arrested one suspect, Zakir Hossain, 28, after the victim filed a case on Saturday naming him and three unnamed men, accusing them of raping her.
Zakir is a local grocery trader.
The 29-year-old mother of three was allegedly raped on Friday night by four men after they forcefully entered her house, and tied her and her children up.
Kabirhat police station Officer-in-Charge Mirza Md Hasan confirmed the incident.
He said: “The victim came to the station at 1pm today (Saturday) and accused four people, including Zakir, of raping her and fleeing the scene.
“The victim’s husband, a mason, is in jail at the moment and the culprits took advantage of that.”
“She recognized Zakir, but is not sure of the identities of the other three,” the officer said.
He added: “The victim was later sent to Noakhali General Hospital.”
On December 31, a 30-year-old mother of four was gang-raped, allegedly by a group of local members of Awami League.
The woman’s husband, who filed a case against nine people with Char Jabbar police station, said the assailants, wielding firearms, barged into their home around midnight, tied him and his children up, forcefully took his wife away from their home, and gang-raped her.
The husband claimed that they had assaulted his wife because she had voted for the local BNP candidate in the 11th general election, held on December 30.
