Zakir Hossain, the key accused of the gang-rape in Dhanshiri union’s Nabagram village of Noakhali, gave confessional statements to a court over the incident on Sunday.
According to sources, Zakir gave the statement under Section 168 to Senior Judicial Magistrate Nabanita Guha’s court in the afternoon about his involvement in the rape case.
Based on his confessional statement, the police conducted a drive at Nabagram village and arrested Abdur Rab Hossain Molla,21, Md Selim, 25, and Harun-or-Rashid, 30.
Earlier in the day, people from all walks of life at Kabirhat upazila of Noakhali district organized a human chain on Sunday protesting the gang-rape in Dhanshiri union’s Nabagram village on Friday.
The chain was formed at Nimtala Samity Bazar of the upazila around 11am.Teachers and students of local educational institutions, traders, and local politicos organized the one-hour programme protesting the crime.
Among others, the event was addressed by Dhanshiri union unit Awami League Organizing Secretary Ibrahim Khalil, Nimtala Samity Bazar Committee General Secretary Md Sahab Uddin, and Paresh Chandra, headmaster of Nabagram High School.
The speakers demanded exemplary punishment of the accused rapist immediately.
They also sought the help of Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader in this regard.

The woman rape victim, mother of four, was gang-raped at Charjubli village in the upazila on December 31 by a gang of 10-12 people, supposedly at the orders of local Awami League leader Ruhul Amin, the day after the general election.
