The High Court (HC) issued a rule asking authorities concerned to explain why the unauthorized schools and madrasas across the country should not be closed down.
On Monday, a High Court division bench – comprising Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Md Ashraful Kamal – issued the rule after holding a hearing on a writ filed in this regard.
The court also asked officials – including education secretary, director general of Directorate of Primary Education, and director of Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education – to reply to the rule within the next four weeks.
"Many unauthorized educational institutes are being run across the country, and some teachers from authorized schools are selling textbooks provided by the government at free of cost to these illegal institutes," advocate Mohammad Faridul Islam, who moved the writ before the court, told reporters.
Previously, writer Ohona Nasrin, and rights activist Nasrin Sultana filed the writ in this regard.
