DUMCJAA gets new executive committee for 2026-28

Dhaka University Mass Communication and Journalism Alumni Association (DUMCJAA) elected its 2026-28 executive committee through a direct vote of its members at the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) sports hall on Friday, May 8.

Voting began at 3:30pm and continued until 7pm. S A M Mahfuzur Rahman, speechwriter to the prime minister, announced the results at midnight after the vote count was completed.

Mohammad Elias Uddin Khan, advisory editor of the Times of Bangladesh, was elected president, and Shahnaz Sharmin Rinvi, editor of Swadhin Media, was elected general secretary.

The vice presidents elected are Tariqul Islam Khan, deputy general manager (public relations) at Petrobangla; Md Nurul Karim Bhuiyan, district commissioner of Gazipur; Kabir Ahmed Khan, former general secretary of Dhaka Reporters' Unity; Sharmin Akhter, executive vice president of Prime Bank; and Sahed Alam, former journalist and analyst.

The joint general secretaries are Shakil Hasan, senior reporter at Jamuna Television; Jesmin Jahan, chairman of J&Z Group; and Mazedol Hasan, publisher at Joyoti Prokashoni.

Taki Mohammad Zobayer, senior reporter at the Times of Bangladesh, was elected treasurer, while Masud bin Abdur Razzak, online in-charge at Deepto Television, was elected organisational secretary. Rafiqul Islam, senior staff correspondent at The Business Standard, was elected assistant organisational secretary, and Lincoln Md Lutforzaman Sarker, assistant vice president of media and communications at Nagad Limited, was elected assistant treasurer.

Tania Sultana, assistant professor at Stamford University, was elected publication secretary; Mostafa Mohammad Tahan, development worker, cultural secretary; Masum Billah, senior reporter at bdnews24.com, research and seminar secretary; Tarek Al Hasan Nirjhar, sub-editor at Prothom Alo, welfare secretary; Mohiuddin Mujahid Mahi, staff reporter at Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), sports secretary; Mehedi Hasan, staff reporter at Prothom Alo, communications secretary; and Rafiz Khan, faculty member at State University, office secretary.

Ten members were also elected to the executive committee: Abul Kalam Azad, acting editor of the Times of Bangladesh; Hasan Ullah Khan (Rana Hasan), sports editor of Daily Kalbela; Anwar Hossain Mazumdar, deputy director of the Public Relations Office at the University of Dhaka; Sharmin Iffat Shams, broadcast journalist at Bangladesh Television; Ali Asif Shawon, chief reporter at Dhaka Tribune; Ishraful Jahan, proprietor of Lucero by Ishrat; Nazmia Binte Alamgir, deputy managing director of A E Group; Waliul Hasan Roktim, head of the audit division at Standard Bank; Rezaul Karim, assistant director at the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR); and Tarek Mahmud, chief executive of Media Point.

S A M Mahfuzur Rahman, speechwriter to the prime minister, served as chief election commissioner. The election commissioners were Zahid Newaz Khan, chief executive editor of Channel i; Abu Saleh Akon, president of Dhaka Reporters' Unity; Doulot Akter Mala, president of the Economic Reporters' Forum; and senior journalist Angur Nahar Monty.
