Detective Branch (DB) of police, in separate overnight raids, detained 31 foreign nationals from different parts of the capital city on charge of staying illegally in Bangladesh.
Deputy Commissioner of DB of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (South) Krisna Pado Roy confirmed the news Friday.
"They (foreign nationals) were picked up in 147 separate drives in capital's Rampura, Gulshan and Uttara areas last night. They have been residing in Bangladesh illegally for years," he said,
Of the detainees, 12 are Nigerians, five of Uganda, four of Cameroon, three of Gambia, two of Ivory Coast and, one each from Senegal, Kenya, Togo, Mali and Mozambique.
Detectives said some foreign nationals specially from some African countries are reportedly found involved in committing different sorts of crimes in the city and elsewhere across the country.
Against the backdrop of the killing of Zubair Ahmed, an O-level student in the city, allegedly by an Algerian national two weeks ago, the law enforcement agencies started a drive against the foreign nationals who are staying in Bangladesh illegally right now.
