Inquilab regrets, apologises, removes report

The Daily Inquilab, raided twice lately by the law enforcers following publishing untruth report, has expressed deep regret for publishing the report against Additional IG Pralay Kumar Joardar on August 18 this year.

The editor and managing authorities of 'The Daily' on Sunday have announced to withdraw the report acknowledging “a lot of information in the report was not based on facts,” according to their own investigation.

They also acknowledged that they were “not careful enough in writing, editing and publishing the report.”

The paper published a report on the AIG citing, and that he created an "unofficial Hindu League" in the police department.

Later, Pralay Joardar filed a case against the editor, publisher, news editor, city editor and the correspondent, among others, with the Wari police station accusing the paper of hurting religious sentiments, attempts to create disorder in the administration and violation of the ICT Act.

Following the case filing, police raided the newspaper's office at RK Mission Road in the capital and arrested Inquilab News Editor Robiullah Robi.

They said they should not have published such report about the police force or the police officer.

The paper apologised for using words in the report that hurt the religious sentiments of the members of a particular community and requested the people and institutions who were hurt by the story to forgive them.

Inquilab authorities promised to be more careful and more aware in the future in bringing out story that might tarnish the reputation of Bangladesh and could cause communal tension or discord, citing “The Daily Inquilab” is “always committed to uphold the country's independence, sovereignty and constitution.”

It has been said the August 18 report was published unintentionally, and out of unawareness.

It also said a process was launched internally to find the responsible persons, and pledged to take action against those.
