HC hands two food adulterators over to police

The High Court yesterday handed over two manufacturers of fake vermicelli, known locally as shemai, to police. The two men petitioned for anticipatory bail in a case registered for adulterating food.

The bench of Justice Md Rezaul Haque and Justice Gobinda Chandra Tagore passed the order, Deputy Attorney General Nazmul Haque told the Dhaka Tribune.

The two food manufacturers, Nasir Uddin and Mohammad Ali, had been making fake vermicelli in the Kamrangir Char area of the capital.  Nasir is the owner of Nasim Food Industries and Ali owns Mitali Shemai Factory.

The Kamrangir Char police station officer-in-charge filed a case against them on July 11, following a mobile court drive.

They are being held at Shahbagh police station. Officer-In-Charge Shah Alam said the two men would be placed with Kamarangir Char police station which will pursue the case.
