Nawshaba: I would love to play a character from Tagore

Quazi Nawshaba Ahmed, popularly known as Nawshaba, recently played a role in the serial “Come to the Point” where she falls in love with the famous Ananta Jalil. The drama serial is being aired on SATV. Dhaka Tribune caught up with the young starlet to know more about her recent ventures.

Are you a big fan of Ananta Jalil in real life?

Even though I enjoyed playing a love crazed fan of Ananta Jalil with the walls of my room covered entirely by his posters, I am not a big fan of him in real life. But, I admire his effort and devotion towards his work.

Your favourite co-artists?

In my first TV drama I got the opportunity to work with Asaduzzaman Noor, Sara Zaker and Suborna Mostafa. I am still mesmerised by their talent. I also enjoyed working with Raisul Islam Asad and Fazlur Rahman Babu.

What is your dream role?

I want to play versatile roles. I would love to play a character from Tagore. Though I worked in a TV play by Nurul Alam Atique which was set on Tagore era but it was not a pure Tagore character.

Tell us about your big screen projects.

I will be acting in a glamorous role in “Chhuye Dile Mon” by Shihab Shaheen, whereas in Amit Ashraf’s “Udhao,” I played a completely non-glamarous role of a sex worker. I want to explore and try out versatile characters on the big screen. I am open for experimenting and would love to work with different directors who would not limit my capability.

Tell us about your theatre activity.

So far, I have worked with the production team of “Romeo Juliet” in Bangladesh. At present I am working in a play titled “Sonata” by Stage One.  I will be acting in another Stage One play at the end of this year.

Tell us about your recent ventures.

I have starred in a seven-episode-drama titled “Relation Ajkal,” directed by Dil Mohammad Montu which will be aired on Asian TV this Eid. I am suppose to work in two other dramas, but right now I can’t reveal any details as the projects have not been finalised yet. After working in the BBC Media Action’s production “Ujan Ganger Naiya,” I’ve decided to concentrate on films and theatre.

Which team are you supporting in the world cup?

I don’t have a particular choice, I would love to see an underdog take the cup.

Nawshaba became well known with her role in the NTV serial “Rupkotha.” However, it was her skills behind the camera that

propelled her media career. She worked for “Sisimpur,” a children’s TV show, lending her voice as the puppet character Ikri-mikri for six years.
