Detained Ganajagaran activists released

Police have released Ganajagaran Mancha activists, who were detained in the second day of the protest demanding severing off any diplomatic relations with Pakistan, Thursday afternoon.

Activists Shipra Bose, Lopa, Shammi Akhter, Monir and Nayan were released at around 5pm.

Rafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Gulsan police station, said police detained the activists from Gulshan-2 when they were marching towards the Pakistan High Commission.

Earlier in the afternoon, police and the Ganajagaran Mancha activists were locked in a scuffle during their march.

Ganajagaran Mancha activist Lucky Aktar claimed the police have detained eight of their activists.

But police later confirmed they were five in number and all have been released.

On Wednesday, Ganajgaran Mancha gave an ultimatum to the government to temporarily break off any diplomatic relations with Islamabad by 3pm today [Thursday] and warned of a non-stop sit-in programme if the demand was not met.

On Monday, the Pakistan National Assembly adopted a resolution expressing concern over Jamaat-e-Islami leader Abdul Quader Molla's execution for his crimes against humanity during the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971.
