Cabinet paves way for Zilla Parishad polls

Cabinet Secretary Shafiul Alam said it would be “published soon” as an ordinance. The Zilla Parishad polls will likely be held in December. Elected public representatives of city corporations or municipalities, union parishads and upazila parishads will vote in the polls. The Zila Parishad will comprise of a chairman and 20 members, including five from reserved seats. Anyone breaching the electoral codes can face up to six months in jail or Tk50,000 fine or both.
