BSF-BGB units hold flag meeting for release of three Bangladeshis

A company commander-level flag meeting between the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Indian Border Security Force (BSF) was held in Parshuram border under the Feni district for release of three Bangladeshis, who had been detained in India since the last 20 days.

The meeting was headed by Nayek Subedar Abdul Hannan, acting company commander of BGB Majumder Camp, on behalf of Bangladesh and AK Rawyat, company commander of BSF 89 battalion, on behalf of India.

The acting commander of BGB said BSF would release the arrestees within two to three days.

Earlier, on August 30, BSF men picked up Rubel, 16, Sayed Ali, 14, and Jahid Hossain, 13, from Baur Pathar border under Parshuram upazila of the district. The BSF officials were contacted by BGB for their release soon after the incident.

However, BSF later took the three detained juveniles to jail for interrogation.

On September 16, the detainees were placed before the court, where they were declared innocent and their release was ordered.

A UNB report from Sunamganj says, BSF members picked up a Bangladeshi fisherman from Laurergarh border in Tahirpur upazila on Wednesday.

The victim was identified as Sentu Mia, son of Marfat Ali of Laurergarh village in the upazila.

Lt Col Maksudul Haque, BGB commanding officer of Sunamganj-8 Battalion, said the BSF members from Ghomaghat camp picked up Sentu while he was fishing in the Jadukata River along the border at around 2pm.

He also said they sent a letter to BSF asking for the return of the abducted Bangladeshi national.
