The Grameen Bank (GB) commission will submit its final report on July 20, Finance Minister AMA Muhith told reporters yesterday after a meeting of the cabinet committee on public purchases.
The government formed a four-member commission in May last year to review the activities of GB.
The commission, headed by former secretary Mamun-ur-Rashid, submitted an interim report in February. Its tenure was extended by 20 days until July 20.
Meanwhile, the minister said he discussed ongoing projects of Asian Development Bank (ADB) during a meeting earlier with its director general for South Asia region, Juan Miranda.
Regarding the third party review of the tender process and technical issues of the Padma bridge project, Muhith said he did not mention ADB’s name during his budget speech last month as he felt “embarrassed.”
“I did not mention the name of the (third) party in my budget speech because it is embarrassing for me,” he said.
After yesterday’s meeting with the finance minister, Juan Miranda told reporters that they had discussed ongoing development projects, including the Padma bridge.
Miranda did not mention fresh funding for the Padma bridge, but said the ADB had funded the design project for the bridge.
