Beach carnival begins aiming at boosting tourism sector

A three-day ‘mega beach carnival’ began in the beach town Cox’s Bazar yesterday with a view to  boosting the tourism industry as the government is going to mark the Tourism Year 2016.

Finance Minister AMA Muhith inaugurated the festival with presence of Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon and State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid.

On the occasion, the beach town Cox’s Bazar took a colourful look. Renowned singers of the country  are performing every day.

Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation Chairman Aparup Chowdhury and Bangladesh Tourism Board Chief Executive Officer Akhtaruz Zaman Khan Kabir were present at the inagural function.

On the occasion, the Bangladesh Kite Federation (BKF) is hosting a colorful kite festival on the longest beach of the world.

“The festival is arranged every year with a view to spreading the joy of flying a kite successfully. Anyone can join us as it is absolutely free of cost event. Participants can do register on the spot and they will be given a kite to fly which they have to return. We just want people to enjoy and we have also arranged a kite contest for children and women on January 1, 2016 [today],” says Shahjahan Mridha Benu, founding general secretary of Bangladesh Kite Federation which started its journey in 2001.

During the festival, the Bangladesh Lion Dance Association is presenting traditional Chinese Lion Dance in combination with our Tiger Dance everyday at 4pm. Science Club Anushandhitshu Chokro’s Astronomy Division is hosting Sky Observation camps.

Every year, the kite festival takes place from January 29 to 31, but Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism proposed the BKF to arrange the festival alongside the beach carnival.

Artistes of art colleges has created amazing sand sculptures on the occasion of carnival. Representatives of the Chinese embassy in Bangladesh joined the festival yesterday. Embassy of China in Bangladesh has been participating in the event for a long and showed their love and support for the event.
