Journalist Siddiqur Rahman granted bail

A Dhaka court granted bail to journalist Siddiqur Rahman Khan on Tuesday. Acting judge of the Cyber Tribunal M Atawar Rahman granted his bail upon a plea filed by his lawyer Mobinul Haque. Earlier, Siddiqur, editor of education-related online news portal Dainik Shiksha, was sent to jail, a day after he was arrested under section 57 of the Information and Communication Technology Act for reporting on alleged corruption and irregularities of a former education official. Plainclothes police arrested the journalist at Shiksha Bhaban on September 1 in a case filed with Ramna police on August 29 by the immediate past director general of secondary and higher education directorate, Fahima Khatun. Fahima Khatun is the sister of Food Minister Md Qamrul Islam and wife of Awami League lawmaker from Comilla RAM Obaidul Muktadir Chowdhury.
