A 16-year-old boy has died following a gas explosion at a Halishahar home in Chittagong, one day after his mother succumbed to injuries from the same incident.
The boy, Shawon, passed away Tuesday morning while undergoing treatment at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery. His mother, Nur Jahan Akter Rani, had earlier died in the blast.
“Shawon had burns over 50% of his body,” said Shawon Bin Rahman, resident surgeon of the institute.
Seven other family members remain hospitalized with burn injuries, all in critical condition, doctors said.
Shawon was the son of Shakhawat Hossain, a motor parts trader from Baghmara village, Barura upazila of Comilla.
