July Oikyo to stage nationwide sit-ins on Thursday

July Oikyo will stage sit-in demonstrations at key locations across Bangladesh on Thursday in response to the Awami League’s planned Dhaka lockdown program.

In addition, the group will hold protest marches on Wednesday in Dhaka, Chittagong, Barisal, and Sylhet, demanding the execution of Sheikh Hasina and the implementation of the July Charter.

The two-day program was announced at a press conference on Tuesday noon by Musaddiq Ibne Ali Mohammad, chief organizer of July Oikyo, held at Dhaka University’s Madhur Canteen.

The organization’s demands say: “The upcoming national election must be held on the basis of the July Proclamation. The student masses will not accept any ifs, buts, or howevers beyond this. If the government and political parties do not immediately decide to implement the July Proclamation, it will be enforced from the streets — together with the families of martyrs, the injured, and the students of July. No election will be allowed in post-July Bangladesh under the India-made Mujibist constitution of 1972.”
