Amid a crisis over reforms in the revenue sector, a platform of revenue officers and employees, the NBR Reform Unity Council, has suspended its work stoppage following assurances from the government.
The organization announced this decision on Sunday night after extended discussions with high-level government officials.
During the discussions, the government side assured that the ordinance abolishing the National Board of Revenue (NBR) would be amended.
It said that by July 31, the ordinance would be revised to transform the NBR into an independent and specialized division under the Ministry of Finance.
Additionally, the government promised that the framework for separating revenue policy would be finalized through discussions with relevant stakeholders.
The government also assured that the "Revenue Policy and Revenue Management Ordinance, 2025" would not be implemented until the necessary amendments are made.
This effectively addresses the main concern of the protesting officials for now.
Leaders of the NBR Reform Unity Council said that the work stoppage has been suspended based on the government's written assurance and the progress of discussions.
They also expressed hope that a sustainable structure would be formed with the consensus of all stakeholders.
