Murshid: Awami League’s brutality in July uprising recalls 71’s brutality

Social Welfare Adviser Sharmeen S Murshid today compared the brutality of the dictatorial Awami League (AL) during the July uprising to the atrocities inflicted on Bengalis during the 1971 Liberation War.

“Like 1971, students took to the streets against injustice, striving to free the country from dictatorship. The fascist Awami League government was ultimately forced to resign after a relentless 36-day movement,” she said.

The adviser made these remarks at the opening ceremony of a special exhibition titled "July Awakening and July Mass Uprising," organized by the Daily Prothom Alo at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in the city.

Murshid highlighted that, even 50 years after independence, the history of the Liberation War had not been preserved properly.

“Real freedom fighters were not given the recognition they deserved, and the youths who participated in the Liberation War were not acknowledged. The Awami League government ruled the country for 16 years based on lies and failed to protect the nation's history,” she added.

The adviser further said that students stood up during the July uprising to defend the country’s independence and sovereignty.
