Nur questions inaction for injured of July movement

On Sunday, Nurul Haque Nur, president of Gono Odhikar Parishad, expressed concern that those injured in the July uprising had to go door to door for treatment.

He pointed out that the young people, who are a source of pride for the nation, are the ones in charge of the July Foundation. He questioned why they should face bureaucratic complications.

He shared these thoughts while speaking at a human chain organized in front of the National Press Club under the banner of Rehabilitation, National Recognition, Monthly Stipends, and Quality Treatment for the Injured and Families of Martyrs of the July-August Uprising.

Nurul Haque Nur said, "For the welfare of the country, the interim government must be supported. For our own good, this government needs to remain in power for some more time.”

He added: “We expected the government to take immediate actions in certain small areas, to act swiftly. But we are not seeing that. Why, after five and a half months, should the injured have to go door to door for treatment?"

Addressing the government and the July Foundation, Nurul Haque Nur said: "The first and foremost responsibility of this government should have been to identify the injured and ensure proper treatment for them. The government should also provide compensation to the injured.”

He further added: “Within the next 15 days, an accurate list of the deceased and the injured must be prepared. Each injured person should be given a minimum of Tk50 lakh, and the families of the deceased should receive Tk1 crore."

The human chain was chaired by Mohammad Toufique Shahariyar, an injured student from Nazrul Government College, and was coordinated by Mohammad Al-Amin and Rezaul Karim Reza.

The event was attended by photographer and human rights activist Shahidul Alam, Professor Dr Mohammad Tanzimuddin Khan from Dhaka University, Nasir Uddin, Chairman and Associate Professor at Jagannath University, Dr Armana Sabiha Huq, Assistant Professor at Buet, Abul Hasan Rubel, Executive Coordinator of Ganosamhati Andolon’s Central Executive Committee, and Nazmul Hasan, Coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement’s Central Committee, among others.
